You know, it’s really a shame how brutal colonialism and slavery (including the Arab Slave Trade), were toward black people.
Such acts literally inhibit expression as they do not centre their oppressor. These hairstyles, despite being perfectly normal forms of expression were seen as acts of rebellion, and so were used as markers for “trouble makers”. Reminds me of that scene from the Wire, between Namond and Weebay.

But I guess, it’s good to know that despite all of that, some things can come back. Nothing is ever lost, not really.
